One of the items featured in our last exhibition, Indo, Indië, Indonesië: Through the eyes of generation NOW, is going on tour in its own city. The audio-installation The Red-White-Blue House will also appear at the Tong Tong Fair. Writer and historian Lara Nuberg interviewed five Indonesian Dutch people. Her short audio stories form an amusing, and often moving, commentary on being Indonesian in the Netherlands, delving into themes such as homesickness and nostalgia within Indonesian families and how they deal with a complex cultural identity.
About the Tong Tong Fair
The Tong Tong Fair (which started in 1959!) on the Malieveld in The Hague is world´s largest Indonesian happening. East and West come together in an atmosphere of friendship, hospitality and inspiration. To some, this is a feel good-event that evokes the sense of a mini-break in south-east Asia & the Pacific (minus the jetlag). To others, it’s a festival where theatre-makers, artists, dancers, musicians, designers, photographers, writers and scientists explore Indonesian culture and colonial history from a modern-day perspective. Whatever else, it’s a mouth-watering culinary trip and an unforgettable shopping experience.
