Our Indo, Indië, Indonesië: Through the eyes of generation NOW exhibition hasn’t even finished and Lara Nuberg’s audio-installation The Red-White-Blue House has already been given a place at the Tong Tong Fair on the Malieveld. A travelling exhibition is a great opportunity for our monthly Kamera Kultura programme to hit the road. So Jellie Brouwer will recreate his familiar Kamera Kultura setting in the cosy Tong Tong Studio, with inspiring guests, infectious music and delicious snacks from Juni Café.
You can visit Kamera Kultura with an all-day ticket for the Tong Tong Fair (€ 12). This gives you a €3 discount on the normal Kamera Kultura price and you can spend the entire day admiring and enjoying the world´s largest Indonesian happening.
Jellie will be speaking to Lara Nuberg, Ricci Scheldwacht and musician Iris Penning. Lara Nuberg is the creator of The Red-White-Blue House, an audio-installation featuring five stories from Indonesian Dutch people talking openly about subjects such as homesickness and nostalgia in Indonesian families, and how they deal with a complex cultural identity. Jellie also speaks to journalist Ricci Scheldwacht about the glossy magazine Pinda, which Ricci plans to launch next year. Musician Iris Penning is joined by cellist Mirthe de Jonge to play some of her unique poetic pop sounds.
About the Tong Tong Fair
The Tong Tong Fair (which started in 1959!) on the Malieveld in The Hague is world´s largest Indonesian happening. East and West come together in an atmosphere of friendship, hospitality and inspiration. To some, this is a feel good-event that evokes the sense of a mini-break in south-east Asia & the Pacific (minus the jetlag). To others, it’s a festival where theatre-makers, artists, dancers, musicians, designers, photographers, writers and scientists explore Indonesian culture and colonial history from a modern-day perspective. Whatever else, it’s a mouth-watering culinary trip and an unforgettable shopping experience.
