The New European Ensemble is one of today’s most innovative, lively and versatile ensembles for new music. The national and international press sing their praises, citing their “infectious enthusiasm” (Nutida Musik), and “outstanding performances” (de Volkskrant).
In recent years, the Nutshuis garden has proved to be the ultimate setting for a relaxing afternoon listening to these impassioned concerts. The New European Ensemble is comfortable with all genres and styles of music; from exciting Spanish music for flute and guitar and the haunting sounds of the woodwind quintet, to scintillating percussion concerts.
On Saturday 6 July the sounds of four cellos will fill the Nutsgarden. Cellists Willem Stam, Sietse-Jan Weijenberg, Alfian Adytia, and Mátyás Virág will show you how versatile they and their instruments are. From a rendition of Quaternion, the composition where Russian Sofia Goebaidoelina combines the worlds of day and night, to a groovy composition of Oene van Geel. Any cello lover can look forward to a very special closing piece: the renditions that the Finnish metal band Apocalyptica (made up out of four cellists as well) created of unadulterated Metallica songs.
