Garden concerts Het Nutshuis 2019

The New European Ensemble is one of today’s most innovative, lively and versatile ensembles for new music. The national and international press sing their praises, citing their “infectious enthusiasm” (Nutida Musik), and “outstanding performances” (de Volkskrant).

In recent years, the Nutshuis garden has proved to be the ultimate setting for a relaxing afternoon listening to these impassioned concerts. The New European Ensemble is comfortable with all genres and styles of music; from exciting Spanish music for flute and guitar and the haunting sounds of the woodwind quintet, to scintillating percussion concerts.

No nature related garden concert without the work of Claude Debussy (1862 – 1918). Inspired by the French landscape this world famous composer wrote in his last years a beautiful sonate for a uniquely created treesome: harp, flute, and alto violin. In turn, the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu (1930 – 1996) was inspired by Debussy, and created his own trio in response to an Emily Dickenson poem about rain and wind. The honors go to Doriene Marselje (harp), Tirza Leenman (flute), Zachary Hamilton (alto violin) to perform these two much praised pieces in the Nutsgarden on Saturday July 13.
